Tsukuba International School (TIS) was founded in response to the need for an English-based educational opportunity for English-speaking students in the Tsukuba area. TIS is a privately operated, non-profit, non-sectarian organization.
At the present time, TIS provides education for students from grades one through six. The TIS curriculum was developed with a multi-national student body in mind. In addition to core subjects such as language, arts, mathematics, science and social studies, the curriculum is enhanced by local professionals who have expertise in fields such as art, music, Japanese language, physics and engineering. The school year runs from early September to late June with school being held Monday through Friday, with all Japanese holidays off.
TIS works very hard to try and meet the needs of the large number of international professionals and students who are in Tsukuba for only a short time. In addition to allowing admission throughout the school year, TIS endeavors to keep tuition as low as possible.
