When you have a baby, please hand in a certificate of birth within 14 days of child's birth.

<What to bring>
Note: Alien registration is required if your baby will stay in Japan for more than 60 days after the birth. Also remember to notify the embassy or consulate of your home country here in Japan, and the Immigration Bureau of the birth. A birth must be registered by the father or the mother.
When: You need to apply within 60 days of birth of the child.
Where: ONLY at Tsukuba city hall (1st floor, Desk 22)
What (to bring): The Mother and Child Health Handbook (boshi techo), or proof of birth registration
 *Note: This is not necessary if you submitted the birth certificate to Tsukuba.
Who: Biological parents of the child or relatives who lives with the child
The parents of the child need to apply for Residence Permit for the newborn child within 30 days to Immigration Bureau of Japan. Passport for the child is not required in order to apply for the Resident permit.

Once you received the residence permit for the child, please apply for change of status (residence status and length of visa) at city hall.
