Symbol mark

The symbol mark is designed with Mt. Tsukuba, blue, red and yellow to represent Tsukuba city. Blue represent the clear blue sky of Tsukuba, Tsukuba Express and the future itself. Red represent vitality and energy. Yellow represent fertile land of Tsukuba, sun and vibrant. The face represent the friendliness. The catchphrase is "Find my own Tsukuba.「わたしのつくばをみつけよう。」." (Adopted on November 30th, 2007)

Official Mascot

The official mascot of Tsukuba is an owl called "Tsuku-tsuku 「つくつく」".

Official Logo

The city mark is a logo that is derived from the combination of two "tsu" characters, from the hiragana syllabary of Japanese. It represents infinite development and strong harmony. The light blue represents the clear, blue sky and science, and the light green stands for bright new greenery and nature. (Adopted on April 11th, 1989)

Official Flower - Strawberry Geranium (hoshizaki)

This is a wild plant that grows only on Mount Tsukuba. It was discovered there and has not been found anywhere else since. Lovely and beautiful, it has nonetheless a strong breeding power. (Appointed as natural treasure by Tsukuba City on January 30th, 1988)

Official Bird - Owl (fukuro)

Owls are known as the philosophers of the forest. They symbolize wisdom and craft. They are truly an appropriate symbol for Tsukuba.

Official Tree - Zelkova (keyaki)

This tree is tall, powerful, and tenacious and is often used in building houses. There is something common between this tree and the infinite development potential of Tsukuba.

The flower, bird, and tree of Tsukuba were decided on November 30th, 1997.
