FY 2012 Job opportunity: Coordinator for International Relations (CIR) at Tsukuba City Hall (updated Dec. 15, 2011)

1. Job Description:
Based on the instructions from the department, CIR is expected to engage in the following duties.

  • Perform as an interpreter for foreign residents within Tsukuba City Hall (Including incoming/outgoing phone calls).
  • Translate documents (Japanese <-> English) accurately.
  • Accompany international exchange programs and act as interpreter.



2. Eligibility:

  • Able to communicate fluently and accurately in Japanese (written and verbal)
  • Any nationalilty
  • Excel at translation and interpretation to and from Japanese accurately.
  • Attended and graduated from secondary and post-secondary education in overseas country(s) where mother/national language is English.
  • If the candidate is not a Japanese citizen or permanent resident, the candidate must have a valid resident status to work legally.
    • Those who aquire “Permit for Deviation of Status” is also eligible to apply for this position.

3. Period of Employment:
April 1st, 2012 to March 31st, 2013


4. Work Location:
2530-2 Karima (Kenkyugakuen D32-2), Tsukuba-shi
Globalization and Culture Division, Citizens Service Department, Tsukuba City Hall


5. Number of days:
3 days a week (Work days will be specified. No work on Saturdays, Sundays or National Holidays.)

6. Hours:
From 8:30am to 5:15pm


7. Salary:
150,000 yen per month

  • Income tax and employment insurance premiums will be automatically deducted from the paycheck.
  • Traveling expenses will be paid separately based on distance under the provisions of Tsukuba city traveling expense regulation.
  • No Health insurance plan or employees pension insurance provided.
  • Amount of salary listed here is for FY2011. Salary for FY2012 may change.



8. Paid holidays:
CIR is entitled to 12 days of paid holidays during the period of employment.


9. Screening Method:
(1) Primary Selection: Candidates' applications are reviewed.
(2) Final Selection: Translation test and interview will be held on Monday, February 13, 2012.
※ Schedule for the test and the interview will be notified to those who pass the Primary Selection.

② Photocopy of Alien Registration card or valid Japanese driver’s license (photocopy of both sides are required)


11. Application Deadline:
5pm on Monday, January 23, 2012

  • You can submit the application form in person at Tsukuba City Hall (Globalization and Culture Division counter 39)or send by mail.
  • If you are applying by mail, the application must reach us by the deadline.
