It is possible to have some of your taxes taken directly from your bank or postal account (kouza furikae). This alleviates the problem of having to go to the bank or post office and line up to pay your taxes. Also, if you set up your account this way, you won't have to worry about missing the payment deadlines.

The following taxes can be paid through your account:

If you don't have enough money in your account to pay the tax, you will be sent a notice within 10 days of the deadline to notify you of the situation. If this happens, bring this notice to the bank or post office and pay the tax directly. You cannot use this system to pay for taxes that are past due. In the case of the Lightweight Vehicle/Motorcycle Tax, you will be sent a confirmation of payment around three weeks after the funds have been transferred. If you need a copy of the confirmation of payment sooner for car inspection (shaken) purposes, please visit city hall. A yearly receipt statement for payment of Prefectural and Municipal Residential Taxes, Fixed Property Taxes, and Lightweight Vehicle/Motorcycle Taxes will be sent the following January. Receipts are sent for National Health Insurance payments in March.
