Measles

The Japanese media reported that there were confirmed measles infections in areas of Ibaraki and Chiba. With this outbreak, there is room for concern that this infection may spread throughout the Kanto region or even nationally. The best preventive measure that we can all take is to educate ourselves. Measles is an illness which is characterized by a high-fever, a body rash, and it can be transmitted through the air. Those who have not been vaccinated and have not been infected by the virus and have a high likelihood of coming into contact with children are encouraged to receive the Measles vaccine. Children from 12 months and under 90 months of age are eligible for government subsidized measles vaccinations.

Norovirus

People infected with norovirus experience diarrhea, vomiting, and sometimes fever. It is contagious and is transmitted through contact with the stool or vomit of infected people. You can decrease your chances of becoming infected by washing your hands thoroughly after using the toilet or changing diapers and before eating or preparing food. Norovirus can also be caught from shellfish that have not been heated properly.
