Register a Marriage

To register a marriage, the bride and groom must both go to the city hall where one of the partners lives and submit the following.

  • Personal stamps or seals (in-kan), or the signature of both the bride and the groom
  • Alien Registration Certificates (for non-Japanese individuals)
  • Personal stamps (in-kan) or the signature of two witnesses (must be over 20 years of age)
  • Written proof stating that the marriage is lawful and valid under the law of the bride or/and the groom's country/countries of citizenship. Japanese translation of this proof is required. Check with the embassy of your country for details.

The marriage becomes legally effective from the date of registration.

Consultation Services for Family Court Issues

The City sponsors a consultation service (shakai fukushi kyougikai soudanshitsu) which specializes in family & domestic issues which involving legal matters such as filing for divorce. Consultations are carried out by a former Family Court Mediator. All consultations occur at the Sakura Branch Office and are on designated days only. Call for an appointment (029-863-0356).
