Give at least one month's notice before moving out, and discuss the refund of deposits with your landlord/landlady. Arrange for the moving (contact a moving company if necessary). As the following procedures become necessary due to your address change, please make sure that you report this change to all the relevant divisions and services to complete these procedures:
- Alien Registration - Register your address change at the Alien Registration Section of the municipal office of your new residence within 14 days of moving.
- National Health Insurance - Register your address change at the National Health Insurance Division of the municipal office of your new residence within 14 days of moving.
- Utilities - Arrange for discontinuing of services and settlement of charges with the relevant water, gas, and electricity companies.
- Telephone - Inform NTT and your registered international telephone company 10 days before moving to arrange for telephone transferring procedures.
- Cellular Phone - Cancel your service contract if you are leaving Japan or change your address if you are moving within Japan.
- Postage - Notify the post office of your new address, so that your mail to the old address will be forwarded to you for a period of one year.
- Driver's License & Vehicle Registration - Notify the Police Station of your address change for a revision on your driver's license. For a revision of the content of your vehicle registration (See Registration of Motor Vehicle section), contact Tsuchiura Motor Vehicle Inspection and Registration Office if you have a car/cars with more than 660cc. Contact Light Vehicle Inspection Society for the same procedure if you have a light vehicle (keijidousha).
