There is a limited amount of subsidized housing available in the city. The rent depends on income and ranges between 34,000 and 56,000 yen. They are available to people who have lived in Tsukuba for more than three months and who:

  • Are married or engaged and living together or intending to live together.
  • Are clearly having difficulty with their current living conditions.
  • Haven't defaulted on their residential taxes.
  • Whose income is within the limits set in the Public Housing Law.
  • Have lived in Japan for more than three years and are registered as foreign residents of Tsukuba (in the case of international applicants).

Due to the large size of the houses, single people may not apply.

Contact the Housing Division for more information.
