Financial Aid for Caregivers of Children with Disabilities

A. Special Childcare Allowance for Children with Disabilities

Children (under age 20) who are physically, intellectually, or psychologically challenged are eligible to receive a special allowance in order to assist in the at-home care of the child. Monthly payments for children with Class I Disabilities is 50,750 yen per month. For Class II, it is 33,800 yen.

B. Care-at-Home Special Welfare Allowance for Children with Disabilities

A special allowance is available for the parents or caregivers of a child (under age 20) who suffers from a disability which keeps the child at home. The monthly allowance payments are 5,000 yen.

Direct Financial Aid for People (Children) with Disabilities

A. Special Allowance for Persons with Disabilities

Persons (age 20 and above) who due to physical, intellectual, and/or psychological challenges, require special assistance in daily life. Monthly payments total 26,440 yen.

B. Welfare Allowance for Children with Disabilities

Children (under age 20) who due to physical, intellectual, and/or psychological challenges, require special assistance in daily life. Monthly payments total 14,380 yen.

All allowances are the responsibility of the eligible applicant or family. Without an application, the allowances will not be disbursed. When a valid application is processed, the allowances will be disbursed in the following month.

Certain restrictions apply for each allowance. In general, applicants who meet one of the following conditions, will not be eligible for an allowance.

  1. The child does not reside in Japan.
  2. The child is qualified under law to receive a Disability Pension.
  3. The child has been admitted into a child welfare facility.
  4. The child is receiving a Welfare Allowance for Children with Disabilities.
  5. The person has been hospitalized in a medical or geriatric care facility continuously for over 3 months.
  6. Moreover, due to income requirements, if the financial aid recipient, his/her spouse, or the primary earner of the household has an income level which exceeds a certain level, the subsidy will cease.

Update Application

Current allowance recipients are asked to update their registration information once each year. Between August 18-28, each City Hall branch office will have a designated day to process a Current Status Update Application. Call now for specific info. about designated locations & dates.

NOTE: If a Current Status Update Application is not processed, these allowances will not be disbursed after August.
