If you are only staying in Tsukuba for a short time, you may want to consider staying in a "weekly mansion". (Mansion means something like "condominium" -- not the huge, expansive house that you might imagine.) A weekly mansion generally provides a furnished room for one person or a small family on a per-week or per-month basis. This can be a very good option for people who are only going to stay a short while and do not want to pay key money or commissions.
